An API can be one of the most valuable assets in an organization. Facebook would not have been as successful if it weren’t for their APIs, the same case can be made for companies such as Google, Twitter, PayPal etc. API is the acronym for Application Programming Interface. In a nutshell, APIs allow systems to exchange data using standard formats such as json, xml etc. REST is the acronym for Representational State Transfer.
